ELDT Training by State

ELDT is a federal requirement — one $20 online course covers it everywhere. Pick your state for the local path from theory to CDL.

One rule, fifty states: since February 7, 2022, every first-time Class A/B CDL applicant and every new Hazmat, Passenger, or School Bus endorsement requires ELDT from a registered provider. ELDT HQ's $20 online theory is valid in every state below — your completion goes to the federal Training Provider Registry your state checks.

ELDT Across State Lines — FAQ

Yes. ELDT is a federal FMCSA requirement under 49 CFR Part 380 — the curriculum, the 80% passing standard, and the Training Provider Registry reporting are identical in all 50 states. What varies by state is the licensing side: permit fees, testing locations, and any extra state rules for specific endorsements.

Yes. Your completion lives in the federal Training Provider Registry, which every state licensing agency can see. Complete the $20 theory online today, and it counts no matter which state issues your CDL — even if you move.

The FMCSA allows theory online nationwide. A small number of states layer extra requirements on specific credentials (School Bus is the usual example — some states add their own training or checks). Your state licensing agency has the final word on state add-ons; the federal ELDT theory itself is fully online-eligible.

Because the course is online and the curriculum is federally standardized, there's no reason to price by geography. $20 one-time, certificate and registry reporting included, whether you're in Texas, California, or Vermont.
